Professional Accomplishments

Below are a few of the things that I worked on through my career that stand out above the rest.

Six Sigma Green Belt Certification - Took a Green Belt training course, created a review, made a custom glossary, and passed the ASQ exam.

Testing Automation - The most valuable skill that I learned while at Karcher was building and automation test setups.  I used hydraulics, pnuematics, and motors of all types to accomplish testing goals.  I also learned to code Arduino microcontrollers to control test systems and provide feedback.  Below are two examples

Exterior Light Sensor - For this product I brought it all the way from an idea to a completed product.  I designed, prototyped, and tested this sensor.  It costs lest than it's predecessor, has better resistance to the elements, and featured a glass window that doesn't change color with UV exposure.

2010 - 2012

Senior Design Project - Foundary Sand Reclaimer:  Our team of four completed a machine that would recycle casting sand used in the schools foundry.  We were able to create a machine that would process 100lbs+ and hour for under 2500 dollars.  The machine ground up old molds, used air to blast them into blast caps, then sifted out the plastic and broken sand.

Mechatronics 307 - Final Project:  Our team of three was able to create a track selecting turntable with programmable records.  The needle was controlled using a slotted optical wheel, the available functions of the turntable were controlled using reed switches, and the brains were supplied with a PIC microcontroller.  There was also a lid lifting mechanism.  The video is linked below.

Education

Laser Location System - Designed a system for locating features during railroad maintenance.  Wrote the provisonal patent for the idea and it is currenly in process.

Hydraulic Crawler Machine Retrofit - Designed a three wheel crawler system for turning a rail only machine into a single rail tie crawling machine.  Check out the video below.

RQ60DBM4 Custom Enclosure - This is the most complicated part that I have ever designed for injection molding.  Because of the unique parting line on this box the walls have to tilt and angle to allow the sides to line up.  The enclosure also had build in DIN rail mounting, custom designed strain reliefs, and specially made cable seals.  The picture below is a first article part signed by the entire engineering department and mailed to me after I left.
